A versatile singer, songwriter, and musician, Blake Carpenter draws from a wide range of influences — from classical to metal, folk to progressive rock. His work spans genres yet always carries his signature sense of melody, emotion, and storytelling. Whether crafting post-punk atmospheres, cinematic rock, or intricate progressive compositions, Blake’s music takes listeners on a journey beyond imagination.

There are many questions we ask ourselves as we get older. Have things changed? Have we made for ourselves the future we wanted when we were young? Is the world a better place? Did we make a difference? The answers, for some, are rarely what we want them to be but we continue on, hopefully still striving for that future we wanted when we were kids. The hard part is not letting it get you down. I use music to keep the sadness at bay but it doesn’t always work and I fall into deep holes of blackness for a while and give up only to hear the right song at the right time and get pulled back out again to strive some more.

I hope my music can help listeners do the same. I have a style all my own pulling from all my favorite music throughout my life. The music I make does not have a genre, the influences span many but I like to consider it to be 80’s revivalist.

Much Love,

Blake

Bio

Biography

The early years:

Blake’s musical path began at age four after hearing his first KISS album. Soon, he was singing along to Elvis, Barry Manilow, and Earth, Wind & Fire, while experimenting with melodies on the family organ. By twelve, he had picked up the guitar, writing songs and performing solo throughout Providence and Boston. Those early years shaped the storytelling instincts and melodic sensibilities that still define his work today.

The real beginning:

In 1991, Blake teamed up with David Mars to form Naked at Birth, an acoustic duo performing original material across New England and recording an EP with producer Tony Lucci. The partnership evolved into Electric Squid in 1992 — a hard-rock act performing Blake’s songs alongside covers of Primus and Pink Floyd. After a year of live shows, Blake stepped away to regroup personally and creatively.

The hiatus:

By 1994, Blake had drifted from the music scene, taking a few quiet years away from writing and performing. In 1996, he re-entered live entertainment through karaoke hosting across Rhode Island and Massachusetts, a gig that unexpectedly strengthened his vocal range and stage presence.

The comeback:

By the late ’90s, inspiration returned. Collaborating with friends reignited his creativity, and new songs emerged with more depth and meaning than ever. In 1998, Blake met guitarist Dana Snell, and the two began recording new material. Though their partnership ended in 2000, the sessions laid the groundwork for Blake’s next creative phase.

The Ogma years:

Blake’s search for collaborators led him to Kevin Williams, Ron Pacheco, and Brock Papinau. Together, they formed Ogma — named after the Celtic god of art and music. Combining virtuosic musicianship with dynamic songwriting, the group became a fixture across Rhode Island and Massachusetts for over two years. Their debut, OGMA – I, was released on Statue Records in 2004 before each member pursued new directions.

The Minstrel’s Ghost and Voice of the Enslaved:

In 2004, Blake relocated to Tucson, Arizona. After a year away from writing, he began recording The Road to Avalon with guitarist Robert Lopez. When that project was delayed, he shifted focus to Dream Things True — a 12-song album released in 2010 under The Minstrel’s Ghost on Melodic Revolution Records.

That same creative period led to international collaboration. Partnering with Zoltan Csörsz Jr., Colin Tench, Troy James Martin, and Marco Chiappini, Blake completed The Road to Avalon — a sweeping concept album inspired by Arthurian legend — released on December 24, 2012, to global acclaim.

Blake’s distinctive voice and lyricism also featured on multiple projects, including Corvus Stone, Coalition’s Bridge Across Time, Petri Lindström’s Hail to Sabbath, and Jack Potter’s Before the Fall.

During this era, he launched Voice of the Enslaved, an enigmatic side project combining melodic rock with lyrics that challenged corporate and political corruption.

Building on Avalon’s success, Blake began conceptualizing a new story-driven album that would become Jack: A Different Tale. Assembling a full band — Troy James Martin (bass), Mike Troupe (drums), Doug Floyd and later Steve Centuori (guitars), and Uma DeSilva (keyboards) — The Minstrel’s Ghost evolved into a live act. Despite strong rehearsals and shows, lineup changes and Blake’s move to Alabama paused the project’s momentum, but the vision endured.

Alabama:

In northern Alabama, Blake took time to recharge, eventually finishing Jack: A Different Tale and releasing it digitally on April 5, 2019 — a fitting close to The Minstrel’s Ghost chapter.

After years immersed in progressive rock, he found himself drawn back to the textures of his youth — the synths, drum machines, and ethereal guitars of the 1980s. His music during this time embraces that aesthetic, balancing nostalgia with emotional honesty and modern edge.

Moving On:

Blake’s move to South Georgia marked the start of a new era. Surrounded by open landscapes and quiet inspiration, his sound evolved once again — airy, reflective, sometimes dark, but always cinematic. Blending singer-songwriter storytelling with modern rock and ambient influences, his current work captures both vulnerability and strength, light and shadow.

Blake Carpenter – Out of the Darkness

With Out of the Darkness, Purple Blake delivers a fiercely honest collection rooted in vulnerability and transformation. This is a project crafted with intention—balancing powerful vocals, immersive production, and storytelling that cuts straight to the heart.

Out of the Darkness is a bold, unflinching journey through the heart of human experience. Every track pulses with emotion—grief, struggle, and the quiet courage it takes to rise again. From the haunting introspection of Memories to the fiery self-assertion of I AM, this album captures the raw, unfiltered path from pain to empowerment. It’s a sonic exploration of loss, love, and the strength we discover when we face our shadows head-on.

But Out of the Darkness isn’t just about struggle—it’s about transformation. Tracks like I’ll Find My Way and The Many The Same light a path through chaos, showing that even in our fractured moments, there’s connection, clarity, and hope. With soaring choruses, intimate reflections, and an unwavering emotional core, this album doesn’t just tell a story—it immerses you, carries you, and leaves you standing taller than when you began.
